As many of you know, going through a pregnancy and then the early stages of motherhood are life changing experiences. The early days of pregnancy threw me out of the kitchen with vehemence. Once the nausea had subsided, the ensuing days of large-belly and then sleep-deprived torpor conspired to keep me out.
But now, I'm back with a vengence! My parents (thanks, Mom!) fulfilled a long-time dream of mine and sent me a Kitchen Aid Mixer for Christmas. Not even having a child has made me feel as grown-up as owning a KAM has! I broke the mixer in by baking a Perfect Chocolate Cake - a long-time family favorite. (My camera was running out of batteries so I couldn't see the photo I was taking - that's why the mixer isn't front and centre!)
I am also glowingly proud of an easy invention that I've come up with to hold Simon's BumGenius diapers closed. I decided to use a combination of cloth and disposible diapers (cloth during the day and disposibles at night) . The cloth system made by BumGenius appealed to me the most - a pocket diaper with a thick cloth insert and velcro tabs. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that the velcro tabs would wear out so quickly! BumGenius says to put them through a dryer to make them sticky again, but this hasn't seemed to work for me. As the diapers are each 17USD, I didn't want to replace them all with the snap version. So, I came up with a simple, easy, child-proof clip to help them stay on! I've been using the (ugly) prototype for about a week now and there have been no problems. I'm now going to invest a bit more time into make it more attractive!
